Parents and carers are responsible for making sure children receive suitable education. Local arrangements determine how to apply for schools and access support.
Apply for a school place
Apply through the local authority by the published deadline. Read admissions criteria carefully and include supporting information where it is relevant to your application.
Get financial support
Support may be available for school meals, uniforms, travel, music or other activities. Ask the school or local authority what help is available.
Support for additional needs
Speak to the school if your child has special educational needs or a disability. The school can explain its support and how to request an assessment where appropriate.
Work with the school
Keep the school updated about significant changes affecting your child. Raise concerns with the teacher or school office first, then use the school’s complaints process if needed.
